I took my DA STG58 out yesterday, shooting my reloads, federal brass 147g fmj with IMR 4895, mid range load plus a couple of grains, well within load parameters, the first three shots failed to eject, I figured I left gas setting open when I cleaned it last time, turned it to 4, fired two more , failed to eject again. I turned it to one and fired, this time the brass flew 30' and the recoil caused the scope to knock my glasses off. I turned it back to 4 and shot sixty rounds flawlessly. What would cause that? I clean the gun very well every time I fire it, does carbon have to build up on the piston before it seals? Like with a fouling shot? Maybe I'm leaving too much lube on the gas piston. Rk |
I don't know if this is your problem, but the gas system should be run dry. Lightly oil for long-term storage. |

Just wondering if you pulled out the site and cleaned the gas port to the barrel? You probably did this, but it was something I had to do to get it to cycle properly. Mine had a black carbon-greese type guk that blocked the port, and I had to put a rod down the barrel and use a drill to get it out. good luck. |
