Hello all. I am in the market for an FAL. I don't have alot of money to spend, but if it means the difference between a decent rifle and a piece of crap, I will spend the extra money. I've asked for advice on other sites and seem to be getting contradicting advice every time I turn around. It seems that not only do I need to worry about what brand I buy, I have to worry about metric or inch patterns. I would like to be able to use either mag, so I guess I need to go with the inch reciever. Is Century arms a decent reciever? They seem to be more in my price range, but like I said, if they are crap, then I don't want anything to do with them. I would just like a decent rifle that is pretty accurate and that I can count on. Some body please give me advice from experience. Thanx in advavce...

The best gun for the money, IMO, is the DSA STG58A, which retails for $995 and has a dealer cost of $795 ($50 more for the carbine)  Great guns.

I don't own a Century FAL, but from what I've heard, you might get lucky, but can't count on getting a good rifle from them.  Their receivers are reputed to suck.  If the DSA costs too much, look for soemthing built on an Imbel receiver.

I wouldn't worry about getting one that uses inch pattern magazines-- the metric mags are readily available and much cheaper.  Plus, that's what the DSA uses.

Track down a $400 Century L1A1 built on an Imbel receiver.  Even if you spend $50 and a few hours tweaking it, you'll have a great rifle that is reliable and you'll have learned how it works.  Ask over at www.falfiles.com and almost everybody there will admit to having a Century and what a value they are.
