The RH25 is definitely going to outperform your 384 Rattler. Especially since that looks to be a 1st gen one. As to your first question, I'm not saying it necessarily has to. If all you are worried about is clip on performance, there are better options than the RH25. There are several Clip-ons that are going to remain useable at higher magnifications than the RH25. Those are all going to be bigger optics. Like I said, if form factor is a consideration the RH25 is going to be hard to beat. I could have worded it better. I wasn't trying to say that form factor absolutely has to limit performance. Although, I'd imagine lens size comes into play somewhere. |

I was just pointing out that instead of improving on the RH25 or following in it's form factor footsteps, the market seems to be going in a weird direction that I dislike and don't understand - it looks like companies are just taking their traditional handheld thermals and flipping them on their sides and calling them clip-ons. I keep hoping to see more options on the market that feel more "tactical" for lack of a better word -like the RH25 - instead of what appear to be European bolt action clip on's half-assedly adapted to the US military-style rifle platforms. I wasn't making any references to performance. |

The RH25 is a short range/low magnification device in the world of other thermal clip ons. Once you get into needing a clip on that performs very well and maintain resolution beyond 4x day scope magnification, a lot seems to change in the design of thermal clip ons. The whole form factor thing goes out the window to some extent when you start having to work around a 50mm+ lens. |

And from what I understand, it's a question of ratios between objective lens size to sensor size and then the distance they are apart which determines native magnification and fov. And the increasingly small pixel sizes for sensors allow for the same mag/fov/resolution as previous generations in a smaller objective lens meaning a smaller overall package and less geranium so lower cost OR better specs for the same size as before. So theoretically you should be able to see the same performance in a modern configuration with a smaller lens size that you used to need a 50mm lens to get. Either way, the new comers to the market I'm taking about and posted pics of don't purport to provide significantly better long distance clip on performance I don't think but they are all designed like handheld devices adapted to clip on use instead of from the ground up as a tactical AR style clip on device in the spirit of the rh25. |

Just an FYI for those looking for front flip caps for their RH25. Obviously, the Aimpoint branded rear flip cap for the Aimpoint Comps mentioned earlier in the thread fit perfect on the front of the RH25, but there is another option, also meant for the Aimpoint Comp series, that works as well. NSN # 1005-01-442-8743 I bought mine from Mod Armory, but I think you can find them on Ebay and a few other sites.    Fitment is tight, cap snaps in place firmly, and it looks like it should have come with it from the factory. |

What's the best way to use RH25 for hogs with a 12 gauge? I somehow ass-u-me-d that .300 WinMag that it's rated for had the same recoil as 12 gauge but it turns out that 12g is has greater recoil, so RH25 has now been relegated to detection only. The only time I have spotted a hog so far I only had a flashlight, and the pig didn't run away when illuminated, so I wonder if WML on the shotgun and red dot will work. Switching to centerfire like 556 or .308 seems too risky in case I miss in such a dynamic environment, and the bullet goes over to the neighboring properties. |

Low-recoil slugs and/or tune the gun with 3-gun techniques for les recoil? But with the thermal to spot, sneaking up with a WML seems pretty fun too. |

As mentioned in the previous post, there is rarely ever notice given more than "this starts now" or "this ends in 2 days" or similar. They are selling like crazy though and I know there is talk of a short backup because of it. |
