It's sad to see such historical items functionally destroyed. I regret to say that I was compelled to do so to a few firearms which were judged by the Mil/Gov't inadequately de-activated. I hated to do it, but in my position, I had no choice. I did the minimum that was required.
In my position, had I refused, the firearm would have been confiscated (and totally destroyed), and I, as well as other members of the organization could have been brought up on Fed firearms charges. Perhaps the longstanding organization itself.
I wish I could have gotten around such de-activation, but BATF/Mil inspection was required. Again, I regret performing the action, but it was done with the least possible violence to the firearm.
