Picked up a Loaded M1A this weekend NIB... Normally with my Garands from the CMP I completely disassembled and grease everything properly and then I leave them alone and just do basic cleaning/regreasing external parts once in a while. My question is should I disassemble M1A and grease it or can I assume it's been greased at factory and just shoot the piss out of it.

You don't really need to disassemble all that far to grease it.  You should be able to see if there is grease on it.  If I recall correctly, mine didn't come with grease on it.  But be forewarned, the first time you take the trigger guard out, might be super tight.  It took  some doing to get mine out.

But that's all I did was take the stock off.  Grease where the oprod rubs on the barrel.  And then grease the rails.  I think that's about it.  You probably should put some CLP or something in the trigger group if it's real dry.  On the  pin for the hammer and such.  I guess the op rod guide could use some grease and you could just put some on the op rod right around the guide.  You don't really want oil or grease at the front of your op rod where it goes into gas cylinder.  As I understand it.  Might attract dirt or get more gummed up mixed with powder and slow the action down.

Actually, it's been forever since I've had my loaded apart.  I can't remember if the op rod even rubs on the barrel.  I know it does on the Garand but since the M1A has the circular guide, maybe it doesn't.  Or maybe it doesn't on a GI profile barrel but does on a loaded.  I forget.  Anyways...  you get the picture probably.

Ya I hear ya, I do the same with my Garand's between op rod and barrel and the op rod spring. There is def grease on the bolt and rails so I will prolly leave it alone and just shoot it. I'll do the big clean and grease later down the road. Just wanna do right by her.

Do a basic strip and grease it. Take a look at TonyBen's video on YouTube showing the proper way to grease an M1A.

Current M1A's come with more grease than needed.

Use a Q-tip to remove some of it from the breech and run a patch or boresnake thru the barrel to make sure there is none in there.  Always pull brushes or patches from breech to muzzle.

Otherwise, wear eyeglasses and a dark shirt when shooting it for the first time, as some of that extra grease will come back at you.

My Loaded Model M1A did not come greased at all, it was however covered in lots of oil. My routine is to always breakdown a new firearm and clean lube to spec.

Grease is only used in a couple places on either the M1 or M14.

New firearms are packed with preservative -- or should be -- not operational lubricants. Clean and lubricant.  Apply grease only where specified.  Use the lubrication instructions for the M14:  TM9-1005-223-10.  Just Google it for a PDF copy.  Don't slather the rifle with grease, use CLP as you would use 1950's rifle oil. Grease attracts and holds dirt.
Next apply a light coat of rifle grease to the surfaces of the
following parts:
(1) Locking lugs of bolt operating lug and recesses.
(2) Bolt guide.
(3) Anti-friction roller on bolt.
(4) Operating rod guide groove on side of receiver.

Guns in general are shipped with a preservative; need to be cleaned and lubed prior to firing.

Fun!  Most people use waaay to much grease.  Put it on and wipe off virtually all of it.  It ought to look under-lubed.
