Hello,
I recently picked up a side stamped Poly with an E2 stock. I know they're fairly sought after stocks, but I'm not really diggin it. I like the looks of a walnut standard stock much better. The E2 stock looks like it's been painted or something, so it'll have to be refinished anyway. I guess the question I have is, what would you guys do with this stock? |

If it can be restored close to it's former condition it may be worth while to find a cheaper GI, either wood or fiberglass stock while restoration work is being done.
You could then put it away and watch prices increase or trade for the walnut you like. While the E2 stock is cool, I find the fiberglass stock more practical. My thick walnut stock is put away as it's too nice to risk nicks, etc. |

I know you said the E2 stock looked like it had been painted, but can you tell if it is birch or walnut? There are some really nice looking birch stocks, even E2 stocks out there. H2OMan has one. But, if you really don't care for it, you can always sell it on eBay, or here in Equipment Exchange. It might not hurt to strip the paint or whatever off, to see what you have. Personally, I would love to have one, but while I can own it here, I can't use it here. So, it m akes not sense for me to spend the money one one.
Check EBay, there are some nice looking walnut and birch stocks. Birch can look really nice, if it is properly finish. If you look carefully at the pics, you can often see the figure through all the crud that is on the stocks. I passed up a nice walnut stock with lots of striping here at the local gun show, and it was only priced at $75. But, I came close to getting it. |
