The new standard stocks kinda suck IMHO. They're real flexible. I like the GI fiberglass personally.

Ayup! First thing I did when I bought my Scout Squad was to toss that stock in the recycling bin and replaced it with a USGI Fiberglass stock.

Same. Then I spraypainted a nice green and tan finish on it.
Fiberglass is really nice. It's way nicer than the factory polymer. I wouldn't spend the extra money on a multicam polymer stock

Had an email exchange with Springfield Armory about their offerings of the MC stock with the Scout Squad model, this is how it went...
Hard to pinpoint if the problems were production requirements or quality. I guess if that stock sucks, it doesn't matter regardless.

Me: Are you all producing the Scout Squad in Multicam? I saw a picture of that configuration back during the Duel Days but not with any retailer. Thanks for the help.

SA: John,
I am sorry to say that we are not producing the mulitcam version due to a problem with the stock.

Me: Hey XXXX,
Do the SOCOM Models also have this problem in Multicam?
Thanks,
John

SA: Yes sir.   The company making the socks for us were unable to deliver.

Me: But the stock itself hasn't had problems (ie: camo finish wearing off)? So if I find one in Multicam, it should be good to go?

SA: There were issues with the finish and that is why they cannot supply.

Me: So the finish problems that you all were experiencing were just issues of production, not quality?
There is one at my local dealer and it looks great.
I just don't want to spend $1,500+ and then have problems down the road.
Thanks again for your time

SA: We did ship a very small number of the multicam and yes it was an issue with the pattern/production not the stock itself.

Yes but the stocks themselves are junk. Flexible polymer not conducive to good accuracy
Not worth bedding either. Forends twisty and contact ferrule poorly. These stocks are a cheapout after Springfield ran out of GI fiberglass stocks. It's all their standard synthetics too. Better to find a GI fiberglass that fits and have it dipped.

McMillans, but they require bedding. The USGI fiberglass are damn good stocks. The older Springfield stocks were USGI surplus stocks with selector cut filled and truck bed liner sprayed on them. Most people don't understand just how much money Uncle Sugar sank into developing the USGI fiberglass stocks with I believe....American Tire? Even at $125 a GI stock in excellent condition is worth it.
