| What aftermarket gas valves are you using ? I want to be able to use commercial ammo in a pinch, and don't want to damage the op rod. Thanx ................ |

I stick to M2 ball ammunition. Reloads are all within the power band for the Garand as well.
I am sure you know op-rods are getting expensive :) I have seen posts stating users were happy using the Shuster plug. Uses interchangeable jets to control gas... http://www.midwayusa.com/Product/412046/schuster-dcm-adjustable-gas-plug-with-wrench-wwii-style-m1-garand-steel-parkerized |

I use and am happy with the one Garand Gear sells. No adjusting needed. I have used it with lots of stuff, from M2 ball to deer hunting rounds with no issues. That is the other one everyone is talking about (could not remember the name). Are there many other users who like it? Seems easier to use due to no need for changing jets.... http://www.garandgear.com/m1garand/detail/33-springs-and-things/flypage/75-ported-gas-plug?sef=hcfp Long discussion here: http://forums.thecmp.org/showthread.php?t=78653 |

I have been around m1's for over 30 years now and these plugs are something new relatively .
In the past surplus ball ammo was very cheap and easy to find not so much anymore. To BA able to feed a garand regularly the real answer is reloading. Most manuals will list garand specific loads. Sticking with that is the best answer ( short of having a pallet load of m2 ball which is not something everyone can find/ afford) |
