| Bolt doesn't slam shut after new clip goes in, I have to help it with a slight bump on op rod charging handle...sign of problem, improper grease application, or normal and don't worry about it? Tanks in advance! |

Quite normal, a small bump is ok.
-As long as the clip goes in and latches securely and the bolt is released. It's ok to need a bump. Something to do with the accelerator to op rod catch toleranes. ETA- you can even see GI's doing it in war footage. On the TV show combat some of the actors were recent war vets, You could watch them load and instinctively bump the op rod forward. The minor issue has been there for a looooong time. |

As stated above, it is normal. When the clip is loaded and latched into place, the bolt slides forward and is pushing against the rear of the first cartridge to be loaded. The bolt may not have the energy to strip the cartridge, especially if as noted the clip is new and relatively strong. A simple bump forward on the operating rod handle solves this issue.
The procedure is many documentaries as well as war movies. In Saving Private Ryan, Private Mellish performs this when loading his M1 during the D-Day landing. |
| the other thing that affect it is the age of the ammunition. if you have nice shiny new ammo it's much more likely to strip smoothly than if you have old tarnished ammo. I noticed that on mine, sometimes it needs a bump sometimes it doesn't so look for loose clips and shiny ammo ;) |
