what would you think would be fair prices to pay for USGI M84 scopes

NOS still in original packaging.. no mount, just scope. I've seen one with an asking price of 1550$ and one on ebay for 1850$, seems about 500$ over for me
USGI in good shape with mount, about 950$ seems common on Ebay
USGI no scope, 700$ seem reasonable?

I'm looking for a scope and mount and am trying to get a decent price base on what I can expect to spend.

As a collector's item, it has its attraction. As a functional piece of equipment, it's garbage.
I have one on an M1D that I bought from the CMP in its original sealed wrapper. The rifle is a tack driver with .30-06 Match ammo and IRON SIGHTS. The scope is underpowered (about 2.4X as I remember) and has a 7/8" body which keeps me from replacing it with something more modern.
Normally, I do not buy anything as a "collectable"; however, the M1D does make an attractive "wall hanger". I also garnished the display with 8 round enblocs with alternating black and red tipped rounds.

The only rule is: If you want it and can afford it, go for it.
PS, I paid $640.

Edited because the $640 was for the scope, rifle with scope base, rings, cheekpiece, pronged flash suppressor, and sling (GI).

I got a new in box M84 a few years ago, I think I paid around $800 for it.  My M1D from the CMP back in 2004, before they were as readily available as they are now.  Supply and demand has really driven up prices in the last few year.  I got a Griffin and Howe mount for my M1C off Ebay for about $600 around the same time frame, now they're going for more than double that.  There is no better time to buy these types of items as yesterday.

completely agree, unfortunately I cant drop 1500-1800 ona NOS unopened M84 at the moment. Not only that but if I did get one I would use it so the value would go from 1700$ish down to 800$ instantly. lol

Roger that. I just happened to see the announcement the first day it was out and replied. It was a lottery deal. I figured it would be several months or never before I heard anything and two weeks later, I was notified that my name was picked. All I could believe was that there were very few names in the pot that early.
Again it has been proven: "Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while".

nice!

I'll give you 1000$ for the whole thing, that's a 350$ profit to take an old, non magazine-fed rifle off your hands! I think I bought my first CMP gun back in 04... Dane M1 w/VAR right when they first got em.
I've been lucky with my CMP purchases, Dane SG M1, SG M1903, SG M1 Carbine and latest is my SG M1D. All are great rifles, it's a shame the pools of returns are running out but I do my best to educate co-workers about the CMP before they run out.
