So I just picked up this rifle the other week and got together with a friend last night to look it over. When we go to pull up on the trigger guard it is really hard to pull up,we actually had to do a slight bit of prying to get it to fully release. We know about the magazine latch pin possibly being the culprit but ruled that out as it was in place as its supposed to be. Also there is a slight gap between the rear of the trigger guard assembly and the stock once the receiver is locked back in the stock with the trigger guard. The rifle is all usgi parts on an arms crop receiver and has neve been fired before. Any ideas on where to start looking as to what the culprit could be. I will try to take some pictures later on of everything, maybe you guys will see something that him and I did not see.

And your problem is...?
There is supposed to be a gap to the rear of the trigger guard. It's there because the trigger guard has to be pulled to the rear and then down to swing it open. This does take a modicum of force. It doesn't just pull down with minimum effort.
That hole in the rear of the trigger guard is for a section of cleaning rod (or screw driver, nail, drill bit, dowel, etc) to be inserted and give you much more of a mechanical advantage to swing the guard BACK and down.
It sounds like everything is just stiff from being new.

Edited because I forgot the field expedient drill:  stick the point of a cartridge in the hole to get leverage to pull down the trigger guard. If you're out of ammo, there's no rush to open the trigger guard.
