I love my CMP garand, but having owned a beretta BM62 in the past, I do like the handiness of one in a 16 inch barrel.

What is killing me is that I also like those M14 mag/.308 conversions. But I would have to part with my excellent condition M1917 enfield to get both.

I have an 18" barrel, one of the cheap barreled receivers that came back from...Venezuela(?), a beater Korean stock, and a full parts kit.  I've been putting off sending them to Tim, but now that he's doing M14 mag conversions, looks like the time is now.

do it!  I've got the mag-fed Mini G and love it.  Call Tim Shufflin, he is great at walking you through the various configs, etc.,  If you have any questions, just let me know.

I bought a 30.06 "tanker" from DGR. It's gorgeous, functions flawlessly and it's very handy. It's great if you like more.....make that a whole lot more recoil and muzzle flash around 8" long.
My preference:  I thoroughly enjoy shooting my LRB 18" Scout over the Tanker. Much less recoil, handles better and equipped with my Aimpoint ML3 comp with a low Aimpoint ring mounted to an Ultimak rail it offers me a much better shooting experience for my 62 year old eyeballs and still enjoy cowitness as well as great cheekweld without any pads. It's my favorite bigbore hands down.
When I took the Tanker out for it's test drive, my first thought was I should have ordered this in 7.62, but then I got to thinking about my 18" LRB....really didn't need the Tanker, the 7.62 Scout is hard to beat.

After all the threads on this topic that come up along with all the gratuitous pics, people still have to ask whether it's worthwhile?  Quit asking and bust a move!

The rifle is fitted with an adjustable gas plug so recoil concerns are moot.  Mine are in 30-06 and are fitted with repro flash suppressors and I've never noticed huge flash, but I don't shoot at night and have not seen someone else shoot it.

More pics.  The bottom one has been sold.

You don't notice any flash because you've got your flash supressed. (Nice tankers by the way!) Mine has a typical M1 muzzle and the tanker throws out substantially more flash than the standard length Garand. The flash isn't that much of a distraction, but the recoil is. So much so that firing from a bench, I've got to be very careful I've got a good grip....bump fire will and did occure without it.

I think I am just going to go with the mini-G, and not buy that rifle with M-14 mag conversion. Question, anyone know of a source for wood and synthetic stocks sized for the tanker garands?

Be aware that the Mini-G and the tanker are close, but not the same.  The tanker has a slightly longer barrel and requires a shortened front handguard.  The Mini-G uses no front handguard and thus any Garand stock will fit.  You'll just have a leftover piece.

I had the optional full repark job and the Smith Enterprise brake. It' a pussy to shoot, very accurate and, best of all, FUN! It's 30-06 and recoil is less than my full size Garand. Now the fireball, that is quite a bit different!
Now I want a mag fed with the laminated stock in .308.
Tim Shufflin is extremly easy to work with and he is super quick with his turnaround. To the OP, you got no excuses, do it!

Anyone shoot groups with the 30 06 mini? How does it compare to a full sized garand and has anyone measured muzzle velocity for comparison?

ETA: basically what's the 30 06 capable of out of a 16" barrel?

Sweet rifles BTW..I want one!

You will lose about 194 FPS for either 30/06, .308 or 35 Whelen.
