ordering an HRA service grade soon, and requesting a new birch stock or at least a light colored Greek-return

what would you say are the chances of my request getting honored?

am i the only guy who doesn't want USGI?

Birch was a USGI replacement to walnut...

Looks good too.

I requested a new CMP stock, and got one. I also prefer the new stocks, though the one in your post is much nicer than most.

Should be pretty good. Orest said they're shipping about 80% new, 20% GI on service grades. Most of the new have been birch lately.

Mine didn't come too much of a pumpkin color, but I know what you mean.

Iduno. That's before several coats of BLO. It's a tiny bit darker now.
In different lighting:

Hard to tell , could be a birch with walnut stain. Usually they birch  are stained a orange color

I don't know enough about the different types of wood to say either. When I opened up the case from CMP, I was worried about it being the ugly orange, but I was very pleased with the darker color.

if you're ordering an HRA you've actually got less of a chance of getting that damned new stock than a SA, most of the HRAs right now i've heard are in GI wood (at least in the stores) and the pics i've seen of them are really, really nice

if you get a nice GI stock and want a new birch, we can do a trade

i got two birch and promptly sold one to my father in law because i wanted to try again for GI wood.  still got the other one though...  looks nice enough but if i wanted a new stock i'd have bought a service grade special
