Hey Guys,
I was trained on an M14 and then got the M16 in Nam. I loved the M14? I guess my question is, how are the New M1A's and what can I expect to pay for a New one?

Thanks for your help, and Merry Christmas!

Really depends on how deep your pockets are, a SA M1A 22" will set you back say $1500 as Scout Squad 18" will be approx the say, Socoms 16" add a few hundred. Then there are non SA rifles like Fulton Armory, LRB and they will start around $2200 and go up.
I personally had a 22" SA M1A and recently had it converted to a Scout Squad and for the price couldn't beat it and the rifle has performed 100% and carries a lifetime warranty, SA has had some quaility issues but for what they produce and sell over other manufactures the percentages I don't think are that bad it's just a PITA to have to ship the rifle back for something that should have not been missed.

Me too.  I just broke down and got a new Springfield M1A for my 64th birthday last month.  I opted for the wood stock and full size because I liked the feel of the M14 I had through training and in Germany.  We were issued M16s in RVN, in late '68 and I never really liked it as much, however, it sure was lighter.  The AR15 is nice but the feel of my new M1A is great.  I can't describe how natural it felt picking it up again after 40+ years.  Everything was instantly familiar and it felt very natural to me.
I got my Loaded Springfield from Bud's Guns for $1,459 including shipping. I favor the walnut stock version so it was just what I was looking for.   Everyone wants the shorter barreled or plastic stocked versions right now but I guess I'm more a traditionalist.  It comes from Springfield with a 10rd mag and doesn't have a bayo lug which doesn't bother me.  I got an 1¼" wide OD cotton sling, chamber brush, cleaning tips, and rifle case at the store but he wanted $50 ea for 20rd Springfield mags.  I found that CMI makes the mags for Springfield as well as being the current Mil-Spec supplier and 44Mag.com had them on sale for $27ea with free shipping so I picked up 4ea.
Then I bought some reloading components and I was ready to go.  I handloaded 1,000rds of 147grn M80 ball to play with and I've taken it
out to the range only a few times (weather has not cooperated).  After
breaking in the barrel and sighting it in, I fired a few just to get the feel of it back.  Then I
placed  some bowling pins at 200 yds and went at them shooting  sitting supported. Even with the standard sights
I found that when I shot clean, I could pop those pins with relative ease.  I was always really comfortable shooting my M14 and this one feels right at home.  Best of all, and contrary to my AR15, when I hit them, they were trashed!  One I hit
in the 'shoulder' area and it blew the 'head' clean off.  My AR15
will just punch holes in the pins, not explode them.
This year has been nostalgic one for me as I got a 1911 back in March and now my M1A.  I hadn't handled either since the Army but they both feel right at home.

Thank You both for your input, I love that you felt like you had never left it 40 plus years ago. I guess I'll put that on my next purchase list. Thanks Again and Welcome Home!

Make sure you get one with the bayonet lug. It's just not the same when it's neutered.

Don't over look a used rifle.  There are some good buys in the EE at M14 firing line

I picked up a scout model from CTD a few days ago. Ordered on the 14th and picked up from FFL on the 16th. I had been eyeballing them at Bud's but by the time I was ready to order, they were out of stock. So began my search locally and online, CTD was the best price I could find for a scout, and think $1434 shipped was a decent price. I also ordered a cotton web sling from the Appleseed store, and a few mags from 44mag and Brownells.
