| I just put $$ down on a Socom16, and I am already pretty sure I want the skinniest front sight I can get [certainly not the 4 foot wide tritium one that's on there now] and since I doubt I will be shooting at anything in the dark with this rifle, the Tritium is a goner. Can I just put any M1a front sight on there? What's the skinniest one I can get, and where should I get it? TIA. |

The front sight post is a different height, so you would have to purchase a few extra parts. SEI has a kit to replace the front sight. |

So, is the real front sight taller or shorter?
OR... what about this: Globe FS at Brownells... |

The Socom 16 sight is much taller then a standard M1A sight. Ok, so that means I need a spacer to use or that kit listed above to use a standard sight... although I cannot be the only one to dislike the 4 foot wide front sight, are there other parts or kits besides the $225 Smith kit? |
| The SA, Inc. M1A SOCOM muzzle brake is integral with the front sight base and gas cylinder lock. With that, comes the XS Sight Systems 24/7 front sight. The USGI standard and NM front sights are too short for the one piece SA, Inc. M1A SOCOM combination gas cylinder lock front sight muzzle brake assembly (thingy). |

Sounds like someone needs to come out with a longer standard front site post for use in the SOCOM. No way I'm buying an entire front assembly just for that. |

Pat Kelley gave me a couple options when I was looking for a front sight fix. One was to machine the entire blade off the front sight base. Then drill a hole and use a piece of music wire of the diameter you want for a front sight post.
Or, Tech-Sights makes this little jewel- http://www.tech-sights.com/ Go to M1A sights in the left menu. |
