Hello, I hope I'm not asking in wrong forum, but here goes...I have a friend who has a new Scout squad rifle, and he bought a 200 round "Battle Pack" of 80's era ( I think it's 80's era ) German surplus 7.62  with a 147gr. wt.

When he was shooting this stuff, he said that the casings were getting stuck in the chamber, and would not extract. He could only remove the spent casings by hand with his Gerber.
Is this because the rifle is new? Or because the ammo is old? He has NOT had any problems with any other ammo. with the same 147 gr. wt. feeding, chambering, or extracting that he has used, JUST with this surplus ammo.

What say the experts on this problem?

Thanks for your help.

The ammo forum would probably get more hits.
I don’t know how good 80’s era German ammo is supposed to be, but if it is the only ammo screwing up in his rifle that seems like a pretty good hint to stop shooting it.

Unfortunately, cases sticking in the chamber seems to be a fairly common problem with Springfield made rifles.  Though, I may be flamed for saying that.  I had a brand new, loaded M1A that would not finish a 20 rd magazine of South African surplus ammo.  It even happened with Radway Green ammo once.  I changed the extractor as SAI extractors are notorious for being bad, but that didn't fix the problem.
Some people report that after a break in period the problem stops.  Others say  that it takes a trip back to Springfield to fix the problem.

Ok, I'll ask in the ammo forum, and see where that leads.

Thanks guys for your response, will pass along to my friend.

Gotta put some grease on them new M1A's. Not a rifle to shoot dry with.

As was stated,be sure it's properly greased, ensure the gas shut off valve is vertical, clean the chamber with a chamber brush then look/feel (with a non-metallic object) for roughness in the chamber.Post pics of the spent casings, both the base and side. They can tell you alot.

Polish your chamber a little bit. Put a little Flitz on a swab and polish away.

I hate to even say it but replacing the extractor on mine made it run 100%

I got some ammo that wasn't sized properly. Stuck in my chamber due to that. I do have a USGI extractor and it ripped the case rims off upon extraction to. That kind of sucked. So you could just have a shitty lot of ammo to.

Why would you even think that this ammo is the problem. He's never had this problem with any other ammo, just this surplus. He should NOT shoot any other ammo but this German surplus and his new scout will keep getting cases stuck.Or he could just shoot every other ammo but this German surplus and his scout will run fine. This thread reminds me of that old saying ––Doctor it only hurts when I laugh,Doctors responce––Don't laugh.

I've shot several K of German NATO in two different M1A's, not one problem, I like it over LC.  One barrel is a Wilson NM barrel and the other is GI HR barrel.

The M1A needs grease, not oil to function correct.  A few owners have found problems with the SA extractors, I'm still using a SA in one rifle, the other is all TRW GI.  You could try polishing the chamber with a cotton swap and polish.
