You might try this before buying the unitized cylinder... http://www.fulton-armory.com/gascylindershimsetstainlessoneea005010and015.aspx |

I don't understand the previous poster. When getting some unitized gas cylinders, they include the shims so that you can set the "tension" of the lock ring. Simply shimming the cylinder still allows it to move. Shimming over unitizing is very cost effective and when you couple shimming to get your GC lock to time at 16:30-17:00 and peen the splines on final installation you will have a very tight system, I personally did mine this way and as a extra step I lapped the faces of the GC and GC lock to ensure a tight seal. |

CALLED SAI YESTERDAY AND STATED THAT THE NM UNITIZED GAS SYSTEM WOULD NOT WORK WITH THE SOCOM , BUT THEY STATED THAT THEY COULD UNITIZE IT FOR $65 IF I SENT IT TO THEM. That information is false. The GC itself is the same. What is propritary is the the gas lock, muzzle device, gas plug and the barrel has a larger port. But $65 isn't bad if you sent what you got into them. You'd better ask how they would unitize yours if you did though. The one from Brownells is welded, which is the USMC way of doing it. SAI years ago also did the screw and glue Army method of unitizing. Both methods work, but the Army method makes your gas valve inop and it has a higher potential to fail. I'd want to know exactly how they were going to unitize it. before I blindly sent it to them. |
