I just picked my first M1 up from the CMP on Saturday.  I shot it today and I was experiencing feed problems on the 2nd to last round in the clip.  The round would feed up and to the left and hit the top of the ejection/loading port. No other rounds had any issues. All i had to do to temporarily fix the problem was push the nose of the round down and release the op rod.
I replaced the op rod spring (from Orion7) already and was using Greek m2 ball ammo from the CMP.  Does anybody have any suggestions on how to correct this issue?

Overall the rifle shoots great, and looks new. Very little wear except the gas piston port.  Stock is new wood. All HRA except bolt and front sight. 5.6 mil serial number.
Pictures of problem and rifle (sorry the one is fuzzy):

Try a different enbloc clip. The one in your pictures looks like the right lip is pushed in too far at the front.

When the 7th round jambs, is the clip trying to eject out of the receiver? Pushing down the round would reinsert the enbloc clip........
Check to see the clip is being retained throughout the firing cycle. If not, the clip latch spring needs replacement.

Could also be the "follower & slide assby", if it is not presenting the rounds correctly during feeding, can tilt the rounds and cause a jamb....

Could be simply a crappy clip. Use a good USGI clip, marked AGE or SA or BRW, etc..... Some of the Greek clips are known to be causing issues in some receivers. Lots of talk on the CMP forum about this issue.

Could be lack of lube. Grease the bolt lugs and other areas as shown in the CMP manual........

Thanks guys. I will try better clips when i get some. Unfortunately, all 48 clips i have are greek surplus and so far have presented the same symptom
I will look to see if the clips are partially ejecting next time i go to the range.  If they are partially ejecting, shouldn't i also run into problems trying to chamber the 8th round as well?  I never had a problem loading the last round.
How do i know/test to see if the follower is bad?

I also was not running grease at the time. Just a butt load of Hoppe's Elite lubricant.  I got grease on it now.

Thanks for the help guys.

BTW, when i tore it down for cleaning, i noticed the gas plug had become finger loose (still snug but able to take off by finger). Should i put thread lock on the plug?

Never use loctite on the plug. Tighten it properly and it will not give you any problems.

HK87––

Gus Fisher weighs in on 7th round stoppage halfway down the page  HERE:

Solving the issue may be as simple as tweaking the your stock's inletting.

That stock is a beaut, by the way, hit it with BLO and it'll redden up nicely over the years.

Gus is exactly right about the stock. I was having this problem years ago with a Garand in a commercial stock. I tried everything I could think of but nothing helped. I took hs advice and removed a little wood  just in front of the receiver heel and it cured the problem. Like he says it don't make any sense but it works.

You may have found the answer to your own problem, loose gas screw. Clean threads and tighten securly.

Never run a garand dry! Grease the op rod slot under side of barrel where oprod is.Also grease the bolt lugs and raceways top of hammer and backend of bolt. Also never tighten gas plug when hot.Use a 1/4 inch drive extension to tighten works great!!

Greek clips are known to cause problems. One guy tried tumbling the clips (without ammo, of course) for 24 hours and claims to have fixed the problem. I'd try fixing clips before doing anything else.

Or tighten the gas screw and fire again. Leaking gas will affect timing /function

Thanks for all the tips guys. I have bought AGE clips off the EE, tightened the gas plug, and swapped grease for oil.  I'm going to give her another try this weekend.  If it still malfunctions, i will take a harder look at the stock alterations.
My main concern right now is to get the rifle functioning 100%, then the stock finish will be refinished in BLO.
Thanks to all for the help, this forum never ceases to amaze me with the wealth of information and generosity of the members.

I hope you mean you will be using grease where it needs to be greased and oil where it needs oil. A Garand does not run as well and will wear out quicker with oil where grease is needed.

Yes, that is what i meant. I got my wording backwards.
