I am asking because a guy I know keeps trying to buy it from me, and I don't have a clue what it is worth. He seems to think it's worth around 900 bucks, but I have quite a bit more then that in it. It is an older M1A with all H&R parts except for the receiver. It has the older painted military fiberglass stock. It has had a trigger job, and the muzzle brake has been enlarged inside and re-parked. I put the military butt plate on it with the shoulder thing that goes up. ( ) It has a front NM sight, and the gas system has been shimmed. The barrel is H&R chrome lined, mint, and the rifle is a tack driver. I have ten mags, a canvas sling, S.A. scope mount, flash hider tool, and a soft case. Now I bought all this years ago, but I have not used the rifle much at all, being as I have other rifle types that I shoot more often. I honestly don't think the rifle has had much more then 600 rounds through it. I may sell it if the price is right, but 900 sure isn't enough, and I don't know what would be a fair price. As it is, it is a fine rifle that costs me nothing to keep in my safe.I would appreciate an honest opinion of it's worth.
Thanks, Willy |

He's looking to rip you off. It's worth more than a new M1A to most people with all the usgi parts it has. I'd tell him to fuke off and watch my silverware as he goes. The best thing you can do is price it to what the current value and pricing is on Gunbroker, here in the EE, and GunsAmerica. I'd put it at about 1800 to 2200 in value at a guess right now. |

Black crinkle SA stock? 1200-1400 bucks, all parts in good shape, good barrel, USGI parts. Those crinkle finish stocks are always a negative for sales. That's with a magazine or two. The other mags if old school usgi are worth 20-25 bucks each, especially to behind the lines states. Any mags from china, taiwain, or USA magazines are worth $5 if they work. |

The black krinkle stock is a usgi fiberglass underneath and worth more than the new polymers their putting out. And there supply is going short, getting shorter. Some Citri-strip will clean it up fast and a can of Alumahyde II will make it sweet. That's an older receiver with those usgi parts also and worth more to people who know better. How old and the over condition will have a bit more to say on it's true value. It's worth more than a new M1A to someone who appreciates it though. Someone who doesn't, doesn't know any better. No offense. |
Wow! Thanks all. I had no idea! Yeah the stock is black crinkle. It has always locked in tight and I have taken it down a few times to clean and it has never changed accuracy. I don't know about the mags, but they all work fine so far as I know. If I loaded up say ten rounds a mag and shot them all would that show a lousy mag? Some of them are blued for sure and I remember the GI mags come parked. I have never had a problem with the rifle jamming except that it never liked the scope mount and the empties smacked the underside of the mount and would bounce back in front of the next round sometimes. Not a mag problem for sure. I most always shoot it with the irons because of this. I also remembered that I put a purty Sadlak gas piston in there just because, and I went to great lengths making sure the cleaning kit was as close to as issued as possible. The more I think about it, this guy can kiss my butt. .![]()
