I am looking at geting the 4th Gen scope mount from Springfield Armory. they have two available. One is Alum and the other Steel. Anyone see an issue with either? i am thinking the Alum as it is about $140 less expensive than the steel one.

i would pass on the springfield mounts and get a Basett mount.  it is a good, cost effective mount that is easy to remove and re-install with little zero change.

Looks good and only a few dollars more than the Alum Springfield Armory one.

My only concern is the single point attachment.  Keeping the mount from tipping forward or backward.

Thanks.

The Bassett has steel inserts that anchor themselves in the grooves on the left side of the receiver. This keeps it from tipping forward or backward. It's a solid mount. I have no problems with mine.

Your first indication that you may have a problem with a Spingfield mount. Is that this is thier fourth try at getting it right. While Sadlak, Smith, and Basset got it right on the first try...

The 4th gen steel mount that SAi offers looks alot like what works. Probably works well. The aluminum version is more of the same, crap.

I'm guessing Springfield opted to make mounts out of aluminum to counter out-of-spec receivers...  My Brookfield mount came from an individual that had to go with an aluminum SA mount because the steel one wouldn't fit without some light machine work.

I am looking at getting the Bassett high picatinny mount.  Nicely priced and have seen nothing but good reviews about it.

What scope are you using?

I bought a 4th Gen. Steel one,.... and sent it back. There was no milled keys for the interface with the receiver keyways... I could see the ridges had been milled away. Really too bad, it had some qualities I liked, after phoning SAI customer service about the mounts lack of "keys"... they said that there are to many out of spec. receivers out there, so they opted to leave off the keyways.....  because that seemed stupid... ( those strike me as a very important part of the scope mount, absorbing most of the recoil / shock from the scope.... having all the weight of the scope "recoiling " off the stripper clip guide seems to me as a very bad idea. )  So I phoned Sadlak , he laughed and came to the same conclusion as me .... SAI still hasn't gotten it right. Get yourself a Bassett, or Sadlak, or Smith Ent. , or ARMS...
