Either my Google-Fu is weak, or else there's not much to be found on these questions....
1) Regarding the "Lubricant Case", what two kinds of lubricant is this thing supposed to hold? I know one of them is grease, to which the related question is, what do you consider the best grease with which to lubricate the bolt? Is Rig Grease an option? 2) I understand the USGI Tool is useable in the disassembly of the bolt. Putting aside the Fulton Bolt Tool and the .30-06 shell case trick, how is the USGI tool used for this? 3) Likewise, how is the USGI tool used to remove the Connector Lock? I haven't needed it, but since it's supposed to be useable for that, I'm curious how. 4) Aside from the gas plug, adjusting the sights, and cleaning the barrel, is there anything else that can be done with this thing that I'm not aware of? Thanks. |

1. Smaller end grease, larger end either oil or bore cleaner. Lubriplate is the "official" (for lack of a better term) grease, however I have used Rig Grease with no issues.
2. Been a long time since I've done this, since I typically avoid bolt disassembly: If memory serves me, you just remove the bolt from the receiver, then press the end of the tool against the bolt face (end with wrench for gas cylinder plug). The groove in the end depresses the ejector, the end of the screwdriver looking part is used to pry the extractor up and out of the bolt. 3. New one on me, perhaps again using the screwdriver end (against the roll pin)? 4. The end opposite the screwdriver end can be used to push rounds off the stripper clips when the stripper clip guide is in place. There is a curve in the end that can be placed over the top round, push down to load the magazine. |
| Q2. From TM9-1005-223-12: a) Position the top of the combination tool over the top of the cartridge ejector. b) Insert blade of tool between extractor and stripping lug on lower face of bolt c) Pry extractor upward. Cartridge ejector will snap against end of tool when extractor shaft is withdrawn from the recess in bolt. d) Remove extractor, ejector, extractor spring and plunger from bolt e) Remove firing pin from rear of bolt. |
| Bolt dissaembly is easily accomplished in an M14 rifle when the bolt is still in the receiver. Put a spent .30-06 case in the chamber, let the bolt go forward. The .30-06 case will be exposed about 1/2 inch. Push the extractor out from the magazine well and the rest is easy. Re assembly is the reverse. |

The curve edges on the end with the holes can be used to push cartridges into the magazine from stripper clips using the clip guide on the rifle or a seperate stripper clip guide.
The small container on the case contains "Grease, Rifle" The large end container stores, "Bore Cleaner, Small Arms". The large end of the combination tool is also used to store the chamber brush when packed into the buttstock storage space. |
