I have a SA scout model and would like to put a reciever scope mount on it. I am leaning toward the 4th gen. aluminum mount I can get at a discount from SA with the loaded coupon that came with the rifle. I'm looking for opinions on this as I'm new to these rifles. Is there any reason to favor the steel mount over the aluminum one? Are there other mounts I should consider besides this one? Any help is appreciated.

Previous generations of the SA mounts had a fairly poor reputation.  IMHO it would depend on the difference in price, assuming the issues do not persist into this generation..  For me, I can always resell a top name mount if I care to without taking too much of a beating.  Possibly not the case with the SA mount.

Top name mounts would include SEI, Sadlak and one or two others that elude me at the moment.

By once cry once. Go sadlak, smith or basset. I have a sadlak steel mount on mine. SA scope mounts have been junk in the past. So unless SA is starting to use sadlak, smith or basset. I would not trust the 4th generation. After all it only took sadlak smith and basset one generation to get it right.
