Ad says...... "Original Springfield Armory M1 Garand 30.06 caliber Rifles. These beautiful Rifles have been 100% professionally refurbished. All metal parts have been reparkerized and feature a new production American Walnut stock, properly cartouched to match the production date of the receiver. Original barrel, bore condition is excellent. Condition as pictured, more pictures below. "

If something sounds too good to be true...

We need more info. Where was the ad? What company did the refurb work? How much? Any pictures?

I can't remember the name of the company, but apparently these are shipped in wooden boxes....

I recall them as being very spendy, like $1500 +.

For that kind of money you're way better off buying from CMP and buying a "correct" or a "collector" grade rifle. At least that way you know it's now not a trumped up worn out rifle with new park.

Edited for typo

Sounds like they are putting repo stamp cartouches on the stocks too. Not original correct stocks.

Probably mix masters from NOS/refurbed
Link Posted: 8/28/2010 7:48:26 PM EDT
The catch is probably that the same rifle is cheaper at the CMP.

Get the real deal......CMP..... You know you won't get screwed

Didn't notice at first, but you being in LA, a little road trip to the South store in Anniston could be in order. Then you could select THE rifle you

want.

No catch , just rebuilt, reparked Garands with commercial stocks and fake cartouches
Link Posted: 8/30/2010 11:16:54 AM EDT
And they are available now...not later like the CMP. That's the catch. They occasionally have them with new Krieger Criterion barrels for a couple c-notes more. These are NOT new barrels, as I understand the ad.

The exact same item can be ordered from the CMP for $850.

Not a horrible deal.

I was just at the South Store a couple weeks ago. The CMP Specials are amazing deals. The Service Grades also look superb, and are a fair chunk cheaper.

Will have to be ordered from Aim by a FFL if you dont have a Curio Relics License, which will add more expense
CMPs rifles are shipping alot faster now, approx 30 days.
The wait is worth it IMO

Yep. At least Shufflin marks his fake cartouches as such-in a way that doesn't hurt displayability but in a place that anybody with sense thinking about buying the rifle would see it-a deep heat brand in the barrel channel. Hidden but obvious to a smart buyer.

Unless you're really familiar with M1s and know what to look for, you're better off buying from the CMP. Even then, your best deal would be to buy from an individual who's willing to sell an M1 without making a big profit.

+1 for CMP
The Special Grade is good if you're looking for a like-new rifle that's also a good shooter with a new barrel.
Otherwise go for Collector Grade if it means anything to you, or a service grade for a good, solid shooter with an outstanding guarantee from CMP. They check them out, do some servicing if needed and stand by their products. You'll end up with a piece of history too.
Cant beat the "Been there, Done That" look.

If you want to spend a lot on a Garand, go HERE. Fulton Armory will either sell you a complete rifle or go through yours after you send it to them. You can pick and choose what you want and will have a much better rifle than the fakes being sold.

The cmp is the only way to go.
Get an hra correct grade while they are still avail or wait for the Winnie service grades in a month or two...
