Hey all.  I am looking into reciever scope mounts for an M1A scout.  I would like to have a quality mount that would allow the use of the iron sights as well.  From what I've been reading, the smith mount allows for this and the ARMS 18 does not because it sits too low.  I have read a couple posts about the sadlak mount saying you can use irons with it installed.  Is this true??? If so, I will drop the lettuce on the sadlak seeing as I have heard nothing but great things about them and will probably opt for their titanium model seeing as this M1A project of mine is a no budget build.  And I thought AR's were expesnsive.

You can use the irons with the Sadlak. The rear apeture must be up at least 3 clicks to see over the bottom of the channel. Since most rifle's require 8 to 12 clicks up to zero that is a non issue. But noted for your info.

So your able to use the irons looking underneath the mount??  Or are you saying if the scope is off and no rings are in place you can use the irons and look over the rail??  Sorry for the repetion, I just didnt understand what you said.  Thanks for the reply though!

Sadlak has a channel cut in the mount. Allowing you to look thru and see the sights. Depending on what rings you use you may not need to remove them to use Irons. Sadlak is the best mount IMO.

Which rings would you use to still be able to utilize the irons with the scope mounted?

Sadlak recommends a medium high ring   +/- .84" from the center of the ring to the top of the rail.  Leupold Mark 4 rings meet this criteria.  Some other rings called medium can measure 1.06" as opposed to .84.  It is best to check the specs of the ring you are considering.

To use the iron sights, you will probably require a cheek riser of some sort.
