I want the option of shooting commercial ammo. |

I bought the Schuster plug. It works fine in my M1. It is "infinitely adjustable". That means you have to take an allen wrench and make adjustments for ball type ammo vs. your heavy bullet hunting ammo. I have not done that so I can't really say how precise you can be or how much trouble it might be.
The McCann plug has multiple inserts that screw into the gas plug. You use one for ball ammo and another for heavy bullet hunting ammo. I can't say one way or the other how precise it may be or how hard it is to make it do what you need it to do. |
| as long as you stick to gi ball or equivalent ammo no need for adjustable gas- only if you want to shoot loads not designed for the m-1 whcich seems to be a silly thing to do with GI ball from the CMP available and american eagle win white box and rem umc fmj 06 being just fine |

Even with the adjustable gas system in place you still may have problems. The powder and projectile in M2 ball ammo give a specific pressure curve. Curve is the key. It needs to match the original loading or you will Fu** up the op rod. The adjustable system is used to match the pressure curve needed to properly operate in the M1. |

I just got myself the Schuster plug, works great. Don't know, though I would do this: Close it off so it doesn't operate in semi-auto mode at all with your desired ammo. Open the valve a little at a time until it cycles, then open it just a bit more for reliability. |

I screwed it in with the factory setting, fired, manually ejected the case, closed the screw some, fired. Cleared the jammed case due to short stroke. Closed the plug some more, fired. Full ejection. Screw in the set screw and go to town. I read most of the instructions that came with the plug
