As stated before, my eyes were getting a little tired for my Aimpoint. Decided to change things up. Back when I had AR's I had an Acog, and loved it. Many more years down the road I decided to go back to an Acog. Lets face facts, by its design the Acog is meant for AR's. All the mounts for the M1A make the Acog sit up REALLY high. I was'nt happy with any of them that I researched. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands.

The requirements for my project were as follows.
1) 4x
2) Mini dot back up
3) Use the scope without changing the cheek riser on my Mod1
4) Use of the iron sights.

I acquired an Acog TAO1 that had been through the war,(literally).
it has so much paint on it that it has texture, but function and glass are great. I added a Mini dot piggyback backup sight. I began with the Sage stripper clip mount as the basis for the new mount. I then had (2) 2 3/8" steel pieces welded to the Sage mount. The gap between them is just enough for the Acog to sit in. Wasnt low enough for the irons, so this is when this project went to the wild side! I actually had an 1/8" groove milled out of the bottom of the Acog so it would sit further down in the mount. Now the irons were in view.
Next I drilled and tapped both the mount and the Acog. I trimmed my mounting screws down so they go through the mount and just the wall of the bottom of the Acog, that way the sight channel is clear. Next I added even a couple more layers of paint to come up with something I like. Kinda reminds me of Multicam, maybe a little darker.

No, I have'nt got to shoot it yet. I believe in training the way I would fight if I had to. So if I extend my stock all the way open, and cheek weld off of the extension tube, I can use my irons. Cause in the heat of the moment I dont think I would have time to take off the cheek riser. But I am just happy as hell that I accomplished what I set out to do. I think its absolutely BADASS.

It was not an easy mod, and you would have to COMMITTED to an Acog if you wanted to replicate this setup, because it involves mods to the Acog itself!

So, let the questions fly, I'll try to answer them as best as I can.

Nice.

Question, how well does the 01NSN BDC match up with the .308 balistics?
Don't think it would be too far off, but how well does it work for you?

That Im not sure of, If I was betting its probably not a good match.
But I selected the TAO1 because of the price factor in my experiment,
It would have taken stones larger than mine to start milling away on a
brand new TAO1B!

We'll see how it does when I can get out and put a few rounds down

The eye relief on the TAO1 is 1.5-2", 2" is about the max.
The stock weld is perfect, It was one of my requirements
not to have to change my MOD1 cheek riser.
