I recently re-mounted a scope on my SA Standard M1A and began having ejection issues that I didn't have before. The brass is getting stuck/pinched between the op-rod and outside of the receiver every 3-5 rounds. The scope mount came with the rifle(bought the rifle used) and is marked "ARMSCORP BALTO, MD U.S. PROPERTY". There are no marks on the rings or windage knob. The op-rod and receiver show brass marks. I'm pretty sure everything is cleaned/lubed correctly. I have had the trouble with Aussie 144gr surplus and Prvi 168gr. I'm thinking extractor/ejector issues but I would like some more experienced opinions. Any help would be great!
Make sure your gas cylinder is fully seated/aligned and the gas port is unobstructied. Mine would eject but would not pick up a round from the magazine. When I had SA go over it, they found that the gas cylinder lock was not fully seated and the gas cylinder was not fully aligned with the gas port. This may also explain why you're having problems digesting certain ammo. I think you remount of the scope may be coincidence.
This topic comes up quite regularly. Most often it is the ejector spring. Worn/weak or the wrong spring. it rears it's ugly head when a scope mount is installed narrowing the room for ejection. Sometime's ejector tuning is required. I would try a new spring first.
I had a similar experience with my M1A and Sadlak mount. Research suggests that the problem is the ejector and possibly the extractor. Comparing a USGI ejector to the one installed by SA shows that SA's ejector has a milder incline and is angled more upward, which I suspect could encourage ejection at an angle conducive to jamming against the scope mount. I've installed a USGI-style ejector (and USGI extractor while I was at it), but have yet to confirm that this fixes things.
