Just got my 1st M1 and my 3rd Garand but my first from the CMP. Heres what I got:

I have a rack grade M1 carbine Serial 41236XX. Heres what Iv been able to find so far:

National Postal Meter Reciever Marked 17 at the front mounting point for the Trigger housing Also there was an engraving that started "BAVA" but the rest is gone

Buffalo Arms Barrel marked 10-43

I believe this may be the rifles original barrel

Front sight marked N

National Post Meter

Trigger housing: marked LGK00 0083 infront of trigger guard, N 9 marked om right side behind trigger

According to the guys at the North store and what i read online this means that the rifle was a Barvian issue rifle in Upper Austria

Magazine Realease:WI - Winchester for Inland

Bolt: Flat top marked 36XX on top

This also indicates it was a Bavarin

Stock set: High wood. Rear sling cut out on stock marked 36XX.Lower stock marked with a P. Also have a name taped to it "Steinbauer" Upper handguard is marked 10 on the left front, in the center towards the rear is 4 and on the right at the end of the cutout is it could be 7777 or 7111  the first 7 is very clear but the others dont line up at all.

This also indicates it was a Bavarin and was test fired

Charging handle: marked 36XX

Rear sight: marked J.A.U 7160060

I was told this was a a set of replacement sights from a rebuild Inland Mfg. Div. used only on the Type 3 rear sight.

Hammer: marked QU

What I believe is sear is marked LN

Front band/Sling Swivel: Marked U

Under wood

I also have a rack grade SA M1 Garand Serial Number 5627XX with the following marking:

Reciever: on the right side C 1 4 B, D 282-91-17  aswell as a XX. 15 marked behind the magazine on the bottom of the reciever on the right side, R infront of the magazine on the right side

Op rod:7790722 SA

Gas plug is marked OP

Barrel: S-A-3-52 with a P underneath

Bolt: 28 on the bottom,

Trigger assembly: housing 6528290-HRA n

Safety HRA
If anyone can fill in the blanks or fix any mistakes Iv made please do. Id love to track down some of these rifles history

Buffalo Arms provided a lot of barrels for them and IBM. My IBM has a buffalo arms barrel and it's original.

I've been told they weren't the best barrels but mine will shot an honest 4" group at 100 with ball ammo. For a carbine that National Match accuracy.

I chose the carbine not because it had the best barrel but it was kinda unique for what the store had. Most everything on the rifle seems to be original with the exception of the sight which im thinking about switching back to the correct one.
