I have a factory Springfield scout rail that I would like to use(the rail that clamps on the barrel). I was told buy a gunsmith that this mount can heat up a lot under heavy use and the transfer of heat can damage optics. I personally don't think it will be an issue but would like to know if anyone had personal experiences with this happening before I throw decent optics on my gun.

Ask your gunsmith what his source of info on this might be.  Ask him if he personally knows of such an incident.

No doubt the rail can get hot if you shoot a lot of rounds through the rifle in a short length of time.  The heat still needs to pass up through the rings, into the scope, and rise to some unspecified level before the temp of the optic becomes a potential issue.  I have heard stories of some optics being affected by too much heat, but that is an issue only for some batt-powered optics.  I don't recall if the optic was damaged, but IIRC, the batt needed to be replaced.

Mirage from the barrel may be more of an issue than damage to the optical sight.

I ran about 200 rounds through mine rapid on Saturday. The Aimpoint T1 mounted on the scout rail was too hot to touch. I think I coulda made a T1 omelet on the thing.

Site still functions fine. Will update if this changes.
