My scope mount is off. Everything else on the rifle is pretty much just like I want it.
Optics consist of Leupold MK4 M3 10x, mount is an ARMS #18 and rings are ARMS #22L. The scope sits about .25" from the rear aperture and there is about that much room between the HG and objective end. Its as low as I can get it. The scope is maxed out. POI is about 6 inches high at 25yards and more at 100. I took the mount off and reinstalled it trying to bump the front side of it up more but this thing is not meant to do that. I went to Fastenal store this morning and found some steel shim material in .002, .005, .010 and .015 thickness. I picked up a roll of the .005 material and am going to see what kind of difference a shim makes under the front ring (should raise the reticle to match up is bore . Am I going to need more than one .005 shim? I would rather have one shim sandwiched in than 2 or 3 of them. I need some extra clicks under the expected POI as well... In case I decide to star using another projectile. |

You can cut up aluminum cans to use as shims........
Are you SURE you are turning the scope knobbages in the correct directions? I have done it wrong before....... If you are running out of elevation with a Mark IV M3, something is seriously fucked up, like a football bat. |

The arms mount is not exactly level with the barrel. I checked it last night in a vice with two different levels.
I was not turning the knob in the wrong direction. When the POI was too high, after my adjustment would make the POI move down towards my POA.. After 4 of these shots the elevation stopped moving. The yardage marker on my 168 gr BDC dial, I was moving it in the (-) direction yard wise. IF I were turning the BDC in the (+) direction, then the POI would be moving up. I think its the mount, but g-damn it Ive spend long enough bying this peice and that peice to find a scope mount combo I like, that sits low and looks damn good, just to find this out. I would have done sent it somewhere to get worked on but all the good people who work on M14s dont want to mess with the ARMS mount. I dont feel like paying 300$ for a new mount and then have to give the thing away on the EE. I am about to call it quits on trying to get this scope to work on an M1A. Its been over a year and I still haven't been able to make it work, and have been actively trying. |
