Sorry if this has already been asked, the search option keeps timing out one me

I'm interested in adding a scope to my 22" M1A and wanted to get some recommendations. I've heard mostly bad reviews of Springfield's mount, but a lot of positive comments on the A.R.M.S  and Sadlak pieces. I'd appreciate feedback from people who have used various brands. I'm less worried about price, but more concerned with getting something solid that is fairly easy to install. Thanks.

Ron Smith.  When my third generation Springfield mount failed and was replaced by the factory, I sold off the replacement mount.

The three most popular mounts are, not necessarily in this order:

1.Smith Enterprises
2.  Sadlak (available in steel, aluminum, and titanium)
3.  ARMS #18

Various military units are using all three of the above.  The Bassett mount is also gaining popularity but I haven't seen one of his current mounts, so I can't comment on them.  I have a Smith mount on my rifle.

If you can find one and you can afford it, the BPT (Brookfield Precision Tool) mounts are also top notch.  The Smith and Sadlak mounts are both based on this mount, which has been out of production for many years.  The BPT mounts are highly sought after by both shooters and collectors.  Cheap scope mounts just don't hold up on this rifle; the same can be said of some cheap scopes.

The Smith works just fine on my M1a.

Here's some links where the same question has been asked here on ARFCOM

Most definitely stay away from the Springfield mounts.  I read on a different forum that one individual was happy with it after he took a framing hammer to the mount.
This may have relieved his frustration with the piece.

Sadlak is a definite winner.  I have the Airborne model and it is by far the best mount I have seen.

I'll give you a SAi mount if you want to waste your money on the shipping. Replaced it with a Sadlak ABN mount. Love it, it's one quality piece of equipment.
