What are those cans of lube or oil at the CMP?  I saw a few dozen stacked up near the service counter at the south store but couldn't figure out what it was for.  Is it some generic oil or solvent?  Couldn't see a way to preserve it if it got opened so I didn't pick one up, wonderin' if I made a mistake there.

Is it green and says poison on it ? I have some just for that toxic original M1 cleaner smell.

Nope, just a plain aluminum/tin can, wasn't even painted.  I can't remember exactly what the words were on the can but it did have the word "lube" on it.  I thought it was somethin' like CLP but now lookin' back I'm wondering if that was the grease I should have gotten in addition to the regular oil?

I use the original grease on my rifle. It somes in a small plastic tube the size of a sugar cube. I dont know if it was in a tin can but that would be great. The "greasepots" are 50cts to a dollar each and one should last a long time. I use this on my AR buffer tube, shotgun and 1911s . Your M1 likes grease.

I don't think this was grease, I shook a can while looking at it and it sounded like whatever was inside was in a very liquid like and not thick like grease would be.  Another reason I didn't take one was it didn't look like it had a lid or anything, once you pop the top I didn't have a way of keeping a lid on it.  But I'm wonderin' what that stuff is.

A properly lubed garand uses just about 1 grease pot.  I could maybe strech it out to 1/2 grease pot but that's it.  I normally re-grease maybe twice a year, (500-1000 rds) more if I shoot more.

It might be the old LSA.  It was a different formula than CLP to take care of the corrosive salts left by early .30-06
