Anybody know where I can find a list of all the manufacturer codes for M1-A parts?

I've got a bolt here that reads SA  Z1C under the part number. I don't think that is Springfield Armory but can't remember the other SA......Saginaw something???

Also, picked up a new Springfield Armory scout. It appears to have a new SA opp rod. Looks to be cast. Anybody have or hear of any trouble out of these? Bolt reads F00188 under part number with a -SA after it. Current Springfield Armory Inc manufacture? It looks machined and not cast. Side by side with my other two military bolts (trw and winchester), you can't tell a difference.

I traded a 99% condition full sized SA M1-A with all TRW parts for a brand new scout with above mentioned parts, even up trade. Market price on the scout is a couple hundred more than full sized, but I can't help but feel like I messed up letting the other one get away.

Commercial SA, Inc. parts are fine for the most part.  Some folks replace the commercial SA, Inc. extractor since they have been known to pop out of the bolt, on occasion.  I have seen a new manufacture SA, Inc. cast hammer that had uneven hammer hooks.  The bolt marked F00188 is a commercial SA, Inc. forged model.  The "F" prefix bolts are forged per correspondence with Walt Kuleck, Fulton Armory, and Dale Rader, former manager of the Match Shop at Springfield Armory, Inc.  The M1A bolts are made in the United States per Dale Rader.  The bolt marked SA Z1C is USGI Springfield Armory made in 1962.  Commercial SA, Inc. M1A operating rods are made in the United States as well.  Most M14/M1A operating rods have been two piece construction.  Single piece forged operating rods have been made by TRW (Ohio), State Arsenal 356 (Yunnan Province, PRC), Smith Enterprise (Arizona), Thrustline Manufacturing (Utah), and those imported from South Korea by Red, White and Blue, LLC (Virginia).

Much thanks, Different. I'm assuming you're the Different with the '14 website that I've been perusing. Nice site.

I'm a toolmaker by profession. I didn't really see anything wrong with the SA opp rod when compared to my trw and hr, was just curious as to their track record.

I've got one of the Fed Ord rifles with a 5k serial number. All HR parts. It's been a good rifle with about 4k rounds through it. I checked headspace not too long ago and she hasn't moved more than one or two thousandths. I had a chance to speak with Karl Maunz on several occasions after meeting him at the Dayton, OH show. Interesting fellow. He wanted me to make some parts for him, but I was so busy at the time filling orders I already had that I couldn't take on another customer.

I've been thinking about manufacturing a run of flash hiders. I could make them so as to be indistinguishable from the original, down to the machine marks. I saw one sell on GB for 255 dollars. I don't think that is the norm. Any idea what you think I could sell them for? Maybe I'll start a thread asking opinions to guage interest. Price point would have to be north of 175 for me to make rate.

Ridgerunner, yes, I have the M1A web site.  7.62mm Firearms is making and selling US made USGI design M14 flash suppressors for $125.00.  Springfield Armory, Inc. sells Wayne Machine (Taiwan) made lugged flash suppressors for $75.00, IIRC.

Above $175.00 per unit, IMO, you would need to offer the following.  It would need to be a milled flash suppressor, not a casting.  The part would be made from the drawing specified alloy steel meeting the exact drawing dimensions, heat treatment and finish requirements.  You could offer the Harrington & Richardson "step" behind the front sight and/or either of the two USGI drawing suppressor slot designs.  Throw in some documentation with each suppressor, e.g., copy of the heat treatment testing, and I think you could sell some.  See my IM as well.
