A friend of mine got a Garand from Cmp ....its a beautiful gun and shoots great except for once in a while it will double fire. We cant find anything worn broken or out of place. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Call CMP immediately. They will fix the problem.

Make sure you haven't put any grease on the hammer hooks, and check to make sure the firing pin isn't obstructed and/or protruding.  A chunk of cosmoline in the firing pin hole could cause it to not free-float.

Sounds like the grease thing may be part of the issue ... it seems to happen more often when its been cleaned and lubed.

Thanks

you didn't mention if you're using surplus ammo or not

I'll take a guess that you are shooting off a bench rest when this happens? If so you are milking the trigger causes it to double. You need to hold the rifle firmly against your shoulder and completly pull the trigger all the way through. Its a common occurance

Yep, I'll admit this happened to me when I first got my Garand.  I didn't follow through and hold the trigger back and I ended up firing a nice double tap of .30-06 .  My friend did it to so I didn't feel to bad.

Before you send off your rifle take it to the range and be deliberate about holding the trigger back during the shot.

Milking.......Like the above guys said keep trigger back after each shot, then let it go foward enough till you hear that little click..........then pull back again.  I am guilty of doubling with my Match Grade piece.  Takes a little practice, but you will get it.
