Ok. I am new to the M1A and have a basic question.  I sincerely appreciate any help.

Here it is and boy is it basic:

The web sling has a hook of spring steel that is attached to the rifle's sling swivels.  I picked up a few web slings and each of the hooks looks like it needs to be bent/opened up to slide on the sling swivel.  Do you just bend them, which requires some force, or am I making a mistake.

Thanks for any help and thanks for looking past my naive question.

If I'm understanding correctly, it's spring loaded and is supposed to clip on the swivel. Don't bend it.

The hook goes on the butt end sling swivel. Open side towards the wood. Use a little pressure to clip it over the sling swivel.

Thanks...

Here is what I am getting at...they hooks are so tight on all 3 slings some bending seems to be necessary to get it to slide on the rear sling swivel.

I am sure I am missing something, pls school me.

I bought some surplussed slings from CDNN, all of the hooks were bent closed and needed a slight bending out to make them function again.  I shoot highpower with them and they're still good, just don't get crazy, open them up enough to snap them onto the rear swivel.  A little tight is still good.

Yes.......bend it open just enough.  Then, slip it onto the butt swivel. Read the "how to".....about the middle of the page.

Do not bend it!

It's spring steel, give it a good tug and it will fit over the swivel. Open side towards the rifle.
