I was just curious to the various grades of Springfield Armory M1A's and was wondering what the difference was?

My SN# 0542XX Made in 1990
The box was checked Standard N.W.

However listed below was
Standard G.I.
Standard N.M.

I am guessing the Standard G.I. Is your basic GI rifle part rifle with a Semi Auto Receiver. The N.M. Is National Match so fourth and so on.

But What does Standard N.W. Mean and How Does it Compare to the Standard GI?

Thanks

I can't think of what a "W" would indicate other than walnut (the other choice being a composite).

I believe the NW stands for New Walnut.  The standard GI will have a "regular" GI stock, which I assume could be wood or fiberglas/plastic.
