I am trying to mount a Leupold 10x40 M3 scope to my M1A. I am using ARMS #22M rings.
The ARMS #18 mount did not it my rifle correctly. One of the grooves were off spec, not sure if it was the mount or rifle. Also the side bolt would not align correctly resulting in a canted sight base and damaged bolt.

I need a mount with the adjustable side bolt ( like the smith enterprises, sadlak, armscor, etc).
It must be steel and allow use of the iron sights.

I can get an aluminum sadlak locally for 145$, but am not sure how the aluminum will act. I will not be removing the mount, and the rings and receiver are both steel. What is the difference in materials? DOes it make a big difference. I would love to use this mount but really dont want to get the wrong item.

If anyone has something like I need, I can send a MO or paypal immediately.

Get the Sadlak. I have the aluminum one and it works great. Besides, Mike is a great guy and his company makes a quality product.

Out of curiousity, what year or first 3 digits of your SN is your M1A?  I've got a 2003 M1A with an ARMS 18 mount that I haven't shot yet.  The mount seems to fit ok so far.

I think the main reason to go with a steel or titanium mount over aluminum is for durability. The aluminum is more easily damaged. I don't think the aluminum mount will get hot enough that the components alignment will change. If you have the $ to get a steel or titanium mount and you want the most durable, do it. My $0.02
