I would really like to purchase a M1A rifle

Is $2200 about the going rate these days for a M1A loaded?

It would be this model (which Bud's used to sell for $1439 but don't have in stock).

Can I do better? Is there a different model that would cost less but is still decent?

I want it for my main go to rifle. So, I plan on doing a lot of target shooting up to 600 yards and my just in case rifle as well.

Thanks.

I like the walnut loaded model way better.  I don't like the feel of the new SAI synthetic (they are no longer painted USGI stocks).  $2200 sounds really steep, wait it out a few months keep an eye on the forum classified adds.

I had a Loaded (Walnut stock with Stainless Barrel) on order for $2000.00. I managed to find a National Match for 2100 at a different shop and snatched it up instantly.

I don't know what the regional difference for priced could be but both of those prices seemed high to me. I almost bought, through gunsamerica, a loaded with synthetic stock and ss barrel for 1600. New In Box.

$2200 seems awful high for a Loaded, even with panic buying going on. I got one NIB for < $1500 in November.

On the other hand, two years from now, if the SHTF, or a permanent ban is on, I think I'd rather have the rifle than $500-$700 in toilet paper currency. Of all the long guns in the safe here, the M1As inspire the most long term confidence, hands down.

Still...you could buy a good bit of ammo with that kind of savings.

Look around until you feel confident you know your market, what's available locally, new and used, regionally, online, etc. Then act decisively and don't look back.

In times like these, you do what you have to do.

Nowadays, it is not uncommon to have $3000 tied up in a battle rifle with a few extra mags and a thousand rounds or more of ammo.
I'd price ammo, extra mags, and figure the cost into what you pay for the rifle.

I paid 1500 for a M1A standard August 2008. The M1A loaded is about $100 for than the standard.

My Dad paid 1800 about 3-4 years back with 2 20 round mags for a loaded.  It was not a great deal then.  But it's a nice rifle.

I just put money down on a Loaded stainless, synthetic stock in the Quad Cities for 1500. The only downfall is the Springfield rep at the store said it could be a 2-8 month wait. Hope fully it is built and shipped before Obama bans them. BTW they started putting new composite stocks on about 3 months ago.
