Has anyone visited there recently?
If so, what was the inventory like on the Service Grade or Correct Grade rifles? I'm considering a trip up from FL to buy a Garand while there are still some around. Thanks. |

Visit the CMP forums for the latest updates on what's on the shelves at Anniston. Currently they have a bunch of carbines and a few Winchester Garands on hand, although the consensus is the Winchesters are in pretty poor shape.
I plan on visiting the store this Wednesday to pick out a Winchester Garand. www.odcmp.org |

I don't really expect to get a 100% honest evaluation of the rifles from the web site. I thought maybe someone that has been there lately could give me an honest first hand opinion before I drive 7.5 hrs. to be disappointed. |

I was there this morning. Damn it was cold. I got 2 H&R service grade guns. One was basiclly a correct grade according to several that inspected it. At 8:00, when the doors opened there were 40-50 people in line to get in. If you want the pick of the litter you MUST go on Wensdays. They do very little restocking Wens.-Sat. You wont have the selection on Sat. that you might like. The store will be closed Mar. 15 -Mar?? I think the end of Mar. They are going to try and clean up some of the mail order backlog. Good hunting eta my buddy said he counted 30+/- people in line |

Sudden change in plans. We are headed to the CMP South store next week. Will be there for 8AM opening on Wed. Reservations at the listed hotels were tight. Hampton and Holiday Express all booked up. We got a room at the Comfort Suites @ the corporate rate. After "shopping" at CMP we will head over to the Atlanta area and visit with friends that we have not seen in many moons and play catch up for a day or so. I just hope this trip is worth the time and effort. |
