I am ready to purchase my first M1A. I would like a few opinions on what is the best bang for the buck. I don't want to buy something cheap for the sake of having one vs. overspending if that makes any sense.

Springfield Loaded... Can't go wrong with a decent product and a very good guarantee.

Avoid "bottom-end" deals and you might consider a pre-owned M1A too...they can be found, though they may not save you much $$$$ but they save you some.

The best (and only) out of the box, mass produced M14 clone is the SA Inc. M1A. The loaded model is a good choice because it has some features you would find on custom M14's. If you want to shop around and build a rifle superior to the M1A, buy a Chinese M14 and customize it. When all is said and done, the price would be a little less than an new M1A loaded, and you would also have a superior rifle. If you want top shelf, buy an LRB and send it to Smith Enterprises. Expensive, but worth every penny.
