I noticed that several people have posted information about the gap between some Springfield M1A's receiver and stock. Has anyone had this gap cause the weapon to malfunction? I have an M1A that was given to me by my dad several years ago and until recently I never fired it. I went to the range several months ago and was able to fire one round, but the bolt would not chamber a new round. I determined that when the bolt comes to the rear, the hammer goes back but does not catch and rides the bolt forward. Basically I have a single shot. I noticed the gap between the rear of the receiver and the stock at this time. However if you slightly push on the rear of the receiver as you pull the charging handle back it will cock and fire correctly. I initially thought the aftermarket synthetic stock was the issue, but I bought a wooden stock and still have the exact same issues. Any suggestions or am I gonna be sending it Springfield?

Something is up with your trigger group. There is supposed to be a slight gap between the receiver heel (1 1/2 behind receiver leg) but it should not extend all the way to the rear of the receiver. The receiver will flex in the stock and if it is completely supported against the stock ALL the way around it will malfunction.
Simple, send it back to Springfield for the lifetime warranty repair.
