I have been out of the M1A game for some time, I see SPringifeld Armory has a third geenration scope mount with two thumbscrews on it. I assume this mount is crap like the previous generations? |
| It depends, if you have an M1A that is not preban, its THE BEST. I have tried The Smith Enterprise mount and it didnt work for me, but the Springfield one did. With a call to Ron smith wondering why his mount didnt work, he told me that Springfield does not have a reciever built to USGI specs, so its slightly off. So Springfield Armory makes theres specifically for their reciever. |
| It'll work. Although it's really not anywhere's near ideal. I've used it without the rear mounting block and it seemed to work better that way. When I first had it mounted zero was wouldn't stay the same. When I used it without the rear locking block, it was better. BUT, it isn't directly over the bore, mine isn't and it is up really high. If you really want to use it scoped, I'd look into something better. |

Yeah I tried it on my recent M1A, 3 years back, never lined up straight worth a darn. Switched to an ARMS 18, haven't had any problems and it holds zero very well. Adam

I wouldn't call it crap because it would make crap look a little worse than it already is. |
Maybe they look like crap, but mine works well. Shit that is ugly and works is better than shit that looks good and doesn't. |
| I had a dream of making my M1A into a long range deer gun. Put a springfiel mount on it and a 6-12 X 50mm scope, took forever to get it on target, like 3' off zero to start. Would never hold zero, "walked" all over the place, could shoot tighter groups with the irons. The scope is now on my 10/22 17M2 conversion and the mount is sitting on the mantel |
Well, it's good enough I've kept it for almost twenty years and used it on 2 M1As. I can't speak for the newer ones, but the one I have works well. |
| Well I didn't have a gen 3, just a gen 2. It tended to shoot loose all the time. I finally followed someone's advice to take a mallet and swage the aluminum mount to the groove in the reciever side. That did help some but it did shoot loose on occasion. You could see from the swage marks that the trapezoid of the mount and the trapezoid of the reciever groove were waaay off dimensionally as originally made. |

Would this type of mount work for the springfield socom 2s???? I ordered mine with the extended rail but the regular came in, figuring it was no big deal I took ownership. I called Vltor about a rail extender they said that I would have to go directly to Springfield who told me I would have send the rifle back to have a whole new cluster assy put on for 500 dollars! So that said, would this type of mount allow me to mount a scope. thanks sam |

, I'm looking to replace mine with a Smith Ent, or a Sadlak.
