I have Springfield M1A Standard. Thinking about a scope mount. I look @ the Arms mount #18 and Salak mount. But the price is a little to high for the salak mount. So will the arms mount work with this m1a. Or is the M1A out of Spec. How do the arms mount hold up. I don't shoot a lot may be 200 rounds a year.

Some folks say they have issues with their M1A's and some folks don't.  I put a scope on mine years ago and never had a problem.  I agree with you that some of the accessories for our rifles seem way overpriced.  I guess I'm just stuck in the past.

The M1A rifles tend to vary from batch to batch, sometimes they are in spec sometimes they aren't thats why sadlak will fit your mount to your rifle. I think that the sadlak mounts sit too high as do the Smith mounts. I used to have an ARMS and liked it a lot but it was mounted on a Norinco. I would reccomend you check out these guys.

Bassett Machine

I have heard that they work verry well, and that if you remove the mount and reatatch it with the optic it returns within 1MOA of your zero. They will be coming out with a pic rail mount in a month or so also.

Captain Obvious here but for the M14 platform the optics drive the mount selection.  Some examples of what I would suggest:

Trijicon, Inc. ACOG sight - Global Defense Initiatives OSM or SEI part number 2005

Ability to remove and install a traditional rifle scope repeatedly - Bassett Machine

Multiple optical devices and maximum real estate - Troy MCS

Small flash light - Midwest Industries M14 barrel mount (yes, recheck your zero after intallation)

You're building an XM25 clone - Brookfield Precision Tool

You're building an XM21 clone - military or commercial reproduction ART scope mount (single or double point depending on the time period)

You live in Canada, own a M14 type rifle, and want to support the Canadian firearms industry - Canadian manufactured scope mounts marketed by Marstar Canada

EO Tech dot sight - Give the Ultimak M8 a try for a standard barrel or a D. D. Ross barrel mount for a heavyweight barrel. I read mixed reviews for Aimpoint Comp and EO Tech sights mounted over the receiver.  The dot sights tend to work better ergonomically if mounted at the barrel ring though YMMV.

Absolute minimal change in appearance to the rifle - Old style A.R.M.S. 18 but the two short rail sections don't give you much to work with.

Traditional rifle scope for occasional hunting use - Sadlak Industries alloy aluminum mount

Low profile - New A.R.M.S. # 18 but consider the rings and the size of the scope tube as you may have interference from the rear sight.

Out-of-specification receiver geometry, traditional rifle scope, you have a few bucks and you don't mind asking for help - Sadlak Industries, LLC receiver inspection kit and a Sadlak alloy steel or alloy titanium mount.

Some folks like the hard plastic cheek rests that are secured by two screws to the butt stock.  Others like the strap-on cheek pads.  I would try the strap-on cheek pad first.  The Sage and Troy stocks take care of the cheek weld problem presented by the USGI M14 stock.

I found if you have a newer M1A, go with the Springfield generation 3 mount, Smith enterprises did not work on two newer M1A's I knew of. However it worked on a preban.
