Hey folks,

I have a Plainfield carbine that I have had forever (3 decades) There seems to be some wear between the receiver and the contact point of the bolt where it rotates on its way back.  This causes FTF and FTE it seems... does anybody have a thought on this?  I'm hoping that a bolt replacement would work but has anybody ever heard of the receivers on these being soft enough to wear?  I am going to tear it down this weekend and make sure it is not the port or other.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Happened with Universals with some regularity.  Metal was just to soft.  Haven't heard of it on Plainfields, but I suspect that's what's happened to yours.  Not much you can do about.  May be time for an honored retirement.

May be but seems a shame... seeing as it is as old as me it is hard to consider retiring it.

#1 - make sure its clean. Fouling in the gas cylinder will cause those same problems.

#2 - Plainfields were definitely much better made than Universals.
