So I finally got around to filling up my CMI mags. And one out of all of them will only accept 19 rounds.

All the rest of them swallowed 20 with ease, but this one.....

So I took it apart, follower slides all the way down, no apparent function issues, put it back together, and again 19.

Any ideas on this???

Is the spring installed backwards?

Got link?

I dont honestly know. This one is prolly the first one I have ever taken apart. I only ever needed to know real from fakes before now.

The square is facing the skinny part of the mag. Make sense??

The M14 magazine spring is properly oriented when the small square on the bottom coil is facing the front of the magazine (narrow side).

3 words. Above & beyond. Ok, two words and a symbol. You are indeed hall of fame.

I am going to take it apart and caliper the follower "tail", and do another one and see what I come up with. This may be a 2 second dremel fix, I just cant see any reason for this, I figured someone somewhere had run across this before and knew what it was.

Problem solved

I remembered having 2 old GI mags I converted for my AR10 with the GI followers in a junk box. The middle forked part was impossible to measure, but side by side with the old GI one appeared slightly taller. Replaced the follower and voila! 20 rounds!!

And before anyone mentions it, I took off my socks and made sure it was 20 rounds.
