What kind of cases/bags do you guys/gals use to transport your M1A's? I personally have a SOCOM16 and I'm leaning towards soft case to take to the range. The only problem is that most of the ones I've seen only allow 5.56 magazines to fit.

I also prefer the soft cases so my son and I can carry 2-3 rifles at once. And the cases that I use have 5 mag pockets w/ velcro flap closures.

One that I use is an OD color and has thicker padding than the black cases, which my primary M1A case. I will look and see what manufacturer it is.

I like discreet cases as they make carrying them easy and the 2nd pocket sections have pouches that fit .308 just fine plus lots of extra stuff like cleaning supplies and such.
I'm using a WRB DC 46 for my M1A now that they made to my rifle choice in the pouches and with the buckles I wanted for no extra costs as it was just choice. They were great to do business with and the cases is top quality manufacture with 1000 denier nylon, heavy padding and great sewing. I highly recommend them.

(looking at their site again I think I'll order a new IWB nylon holster now from them for my M9/92FS and when I pick up another M1A I'll buy another DC from them.)

WRB diiscreet cases

They made me a 46inch at the time for my fullsize gi barreled and still would I'm sure even though it's not listed on the site right now for those that need a longer DC. It cost me 99 bucks and I had them use metal buckles instead of polymers for extra strength.

I'm using a zeigel hard case.  It's aluminum and bomb proof.  I'm driving a fullsize SUV so space isn't an issue.  Softcases are much more pickup truck friendly.

I have a Springfield soft case, black in color with mag pockets on the side that I don't use anymore and it looks like new.  (probably only used it a half dozen times)

EMail o IM me if you want a SAInc case fairly cheap.

yeah my soft cases only allow AR mags in them. but the big pocket on them will fit 2-3 mags.

the mags go in easily.  The easiest way to remove though is by pushing up from the bottom of the pouch.  The pockets are snug enough that your thumb and fingers can't easily get inside to get a grip on the mag.  It's simple that way as opposed to trying to pinch the top of the mag.  It's more a function of pocket length which is generous enough to fit CMI 25 rounders.

ETA- I'm betting the maker contracted by SAInc. actually made the pockets for 30 rounder AR's but the GI 20's go in easily unlike some cases' pouches.

I bought a Tac Force 42" soft sided rifle bag.  It comes with a detachable 3 pocket magazine pouch which will accomodate 7.62 mags.

OMB Express has the best prices for these bags.  I am sorry that I could not find a link for them.  Try google.

thanks for the info. I'll have to pass on the SA soft cases. I looked at one in person and was not impressed. (The owner wasn't happy with it either)

I'm really liking the Tac Force TTS bags. I was hoping I could nab the '36 one but the SOCOM is just over '37 inches.
