I have been wanting to put an Aimpoint on My springfield standard M1A for awhile now, I finally have the money so my question is, Is the ARMS mount hard to install? am I going to be able to do it my self or will I have to take it to a Smith? Also is this a good mount for a Aimpoint Comp ML2? Basically how big of a Job is this?

thanks for your Help

It's a good mount, but for the ML2 I'd advise you get a Smith Enterprise mount (Brookfield clone), with the Picatinny rail.

Do you know the web address for those mounts? Do they make them any longer than that, and whats the price?

I've got the smith mount on my M1A,it's definately one of the best mounts.Smith lists them for $190 but you should be able to pick it up for $175.It's just as good as the Brookfield.Good luck trying to find a Brookfield.Stay away from Springfield Armory mounts.

Why do you say to stay away from Springfield Armory mounts?

Because they are supposed to suck. They are made of aluminum.

The SA mounts do suck as I speak from personal experience.  The ARMS is a superb mount for a standard scope.  However, if I was going with something like the ML2 then I would follow Cinncinatus' advice and go with the Smith and Picatinny combination.  It will allow you much more leeway in moving your ML2 forward to give you the visual flexibility you may want or need.
The ARMS mount has limited mounting positions unless you add an ARMS 19A (I think) rail to the top of it, which places your optics a lot higher above the bore.
