what can you guys tell me about the H&R garands? im about to do some research on my own, and any input you can give me also would be great thanks! |

Well, they seem to have the best fit and finish of the four US makers in my opinion, It is fairly easy to get correct parts for them as they didn't have many revisions. They used several barrels from the factory, LMR, HRN, and SA on a select few. I have a couple of corrects and always look out for another nice one. They tend to shoot very well but nothing I own can outshoot my 43 Winnie with 45 SA barrel. Just my 2 cents. |

I've got a correct grade 55 HRA. The finish is much nicer and everything locks up pretty good. This is my vault queen. The parkerized finish is real black and looks sweet. It does not however shoot better then either one of my circa 43/44 SA's. One was rebuilt in 65 with a new barrel by Red Rock and packed away, that's my shooter and the other was a Dane loaner and even though it almost swallows a bullet at the muzzle, it is quite a good shooter. The Dane gets the most range time. |
No way dude...every time I hold my SA's I just wonder what they must have been thru and wish they could talk. WW2, Korea, Vietnam, riot patrols of the 60's,... To me, it is part of the connection to our heritage. If $ ever becomes tight, the HRA will be the first to go. |
just to understand you better... are you saying its NOT wrong for me to prefer a early 40s Garand ? |
Amen to that. I have an HRA correct and 6 SAs of various grades and my favorite (and best shooter) is one that the serial number puts it in early Dec. 1941. It may not be a collectors dream but I think it's special! |
