Who makes the best current M1A/M14?

I've been reading a lot of negative things about Springfield, and haven't found much on Fulton armory or any others.

What say you hive mind?

I have two Fultons and love them.  If you want to wait a year get a LRB.  I never heard a bad word about Fultons besides some thinking they are a little pricy.

I think Springfield is much better than everyone gives them credit for. I own a newer Scout and it's been 100% reliable.

The horror stories are not exactly a fair sampling of all the Springfield M1A's sold.

For the record, I don't deny that Fulton or LRB make an amazing rifle, and it is better than an M1A. But I don't know if the difference between those and Springfield is big enough to warrant the extra cost, unless you have lots of expendable income and want a peerless M14-clone.

LRB delivers complete rifles in 3-4 months and are worth the money.

I'd take a SA inc with USGI parts over a Fulton.  LRB are supposed to be great but I am looking at it this way.  I have 3 SA inc all USGI parts.  I paid on Avg $1200 each.  If I bought a LRB for $2000 and it had all USGI parts I just spent $800 more for a reciever.  That is not worth it to me.  That is the only difference.  I know the person who put the pieces together matters but I have NEVER had a problem with SA inc.  I currently own 3 have owned 2 more and next week will be getting another.

KD5TXX beat me to the punch.

I currently have a number of SAinc M1As and they are very reliable and accurate w/ USGI parts. I would look for a preban or lower serial numbered rifle with at least a USGI barrel. Older lowered serial numbered rifles generally, but not always will have a higher USGI content.

This is what I have done then swapped out the SAinc parts for USGI. I have sold off the SAinc parts and recouped a good portion of the USGI cost. Now, alot of SAinc issues are with the extractors and most people will swap these out for USGI extractors and use the SAinc parts for the bolt body, trigger group and op-rod. The "F" code SAinc bolts are a Forged bolt are a quality part in of itself.

But having said that, I also purchased my USGI parts when they were alot cheaper a few years back, and I still continue to buy them now when they are a good price for the current market. They probably wont get any cheaper.

Now, usually when you see writeups about peoples Fultons or LRBs or..... they also have USGI components and sometimes customer supplied parts to build up the rifles. Thus the extra cost. And they are great rifles worth the premium IMO.

Like anything else, you will see more negative comments and bashing then the good positive comments about the items. I have been fortunate and had very good luck with SAinc and their M1As. SA has definately deserved some of the bashing and their products have had issues, but name a large Co. that hasn't had issues. If they take care of the problems and make them right then... you will either continue to buy their products or move on to anothers.

We look here mainly for info on the AR platforms, so try out m-14forum.com for the M14 platforms and Garands.

Apologies for the lengthy post,
