at least the prosecutor has his head in the right place.  "The cause of yesterday's tragedy isn't the weapon. It's the person who fired it,"

Sucks, but things happen.  I'm willing to bet you can count the nationwide crimes committed with an M1 on one hand, and definately no more than two hands.  If it weren't cops shot, and if it wasn't a WWII rifle, this wouldn't even have made the news most likely.  Tragic that this kid had to take a cop with him (and maybe the career of another?).  I would much rather he had just suck-started that M1 by himself without hurting someone else.

Agreed.  But did you see the mention of what he used?

"a WWII era sniper rifle"

ya, typical media stupidity, or maybe it was an M1C

I hate to be the prek pessimist but I'm surprised it wasn't referred as a WWII Assault Weapon.

Sorry all, it's been a bad day and I'm sick of seeing our youth ending up on a rocket sled to hell.

Prosecutor Keith Henderson said the boy's father bought the M1 Garand some time ago and that he and his son shot it during target practice. The gun is a showpiece, and possessing one is not illegal, the prosecutor said.

On the radio news yesterday, it was referred to as "a high-powered M1 assault rifle".

Well, it was used in the assault of Normandy, the Battle of Bulge, Iwo Jima....

Well obviously we need to ban those black assault rifles, oh wait.

There really is something wrong with kids today.  I say this while I am only in my twenties.  It really can't be the guns.  Guns have always been around and were more readily in the hands of kids 50 years ago, but we never saw shit like this back then.  My heart goes out to the officers and their families.
